Juicer efficiency?

Thursday Apr 1, 2010

Considering buying a juicer to improve diet. I've heard from a few people that the juicers don't produce very much and that I will have to buy a lot of fruits/veggies just to get 1 drink.

Of course, my first thought is they probably had a cheaper juicer (under 0), but of course, they don't remember which kind (which should be a sign right?). So, I'm wondering from those who have experimented with the different type of juicers out there, is this statement true with some of the more expensive juicers, like the ones from vitamix or breville? Or do they all pretty much yield about the same amount of juice, regardless of price/quality?

I'd love to hear real experiences like "Yeah I had a cheap juicer and it took 4 oranges to make 1 drink but then I bought the *0 juicer* and now it only takes 2 oranges" or something to that effect.

Thanks!

I used to have a Hamilton Beach juicer and I now have a Jack LaLane juicer. (from lower-level to moderate level).
My JLL doesn’t leave as much pulp as the HB juicer, which ultimately means that I have more juice. I also hated the fact that the vegetable chute on the HB was REALLY small – I had to chop a lot to get the fruit and veggies to fit. With the JLL, I can fit five carrots at a time in the chute and all is well.
I know you asked more a bout the yield, but I thought I’d throw that in for good measure.
You get what you pay for….it’s high time to replace my JLL and I’m going for a Champion juicer next time. From what I understand, it is really efficient.
Good luck.
btw- keep in mind that with any juicer, you will get a certain amount of pulp – it separates the indigestible fibre for us.
